Ensure that your hob’s stylish looks aren’t ruined by dirt and dust

In theory, they should also be fairly simple to maintain. But are induction hobs easy to clean, and how should owners go about keeping them in peak condition?
Why it’s important to take care when keeping your induction hob clean
Clean induction hobs will be more efficient (as they can transfer heat effectively from ceramics to cooking vessels), and the absence of grime and grease will reduce the risk of infections. Eradicating dirt will also ensure that shine is retained, while making it easy to see any guide marks imprinted into the surface.
However, ceramic materials are notoriously prone to scratches and scuffs, while using the wrong cleaning solutions can also affect the colour and shine of the surface. Fortunately, there are several easy ways to clean hobs properly, without causing any damage at all.
How to clean the induction hob easily and thoroughly
- Firstly, use a soft cloth – preferably one made from microfibres. If you can’t source a microfibre cloth, look for a cleaning brush with very soft bristles. The kind of brushes used in makeup removal could be ideal.
- Secondly, assess the kind of dirt that needs to be removed. If your hob is covered with burned-on food, it’s advisable to enlist the help of vinegar and baking soda. Use the cloth to apply a layer of normal cooking vinegar, then sprinkle baking soda over the top. Spray on some water, or douse a towel and lay it over the top. Leave it for half an hour to one hour, then carefully wipe off the dirt.For less stubborn stains, hob owners can just mix up some warm soapy water, and wipe off grease and grime. Standard washing up liquid is fine to use, and should be pretty effective.
- Finally, you’ll need to dry the hob to bring it back to working condition. Again, a microfibre cloth is the best tool to use here. Avoid any accessories featuring wire wool or other abrasive materials (scouring pads are definitely a no-no). And try to avoid using scrapers, unless they have been specifically created for use with ceramics.
