Guide to choosing a kitchen hood

The hood is one of the most important appliances in the kitchen: it helps to perfect the design of the environment and ensures constant air exchange, preventing your home from being invaded by unpleasant odors, fumes and vapors that are created during cooking.

The air we breathe is one of the determining factors for our well-being.We are often unaware of the level of indoor pollution to which we are subjected every day: the kitchen hood is our best ally for breathing clean air.

There are many elements to take into consideration when choosing a hood: the space and type of environment in which it must be installed, the design, the filtering method, the efficiency and the technical characteristics.

The guide to choosing a Faber kitchen hood will show you how to identify the Faber hood capable of meeting all your needs.

Calculate the volume of the kitchen

When purchasing a hood, you need to choose a model with an adequate suction power and air flow rate for the size of the room in which it will be installed.The volume of the kitchen determines the necessary suction capacity.An effective hood changes the air in the kitchen 10 times in an hour*.

Effectiveness = m2 kitchen x kitchen height x 10 air changes

For example, a kitchen of 15 m2 and 3 m high will need a hood that sucks at least 450 m3/h.In fact: 15 m2 x 3m x 10 = 450 m3/h.

You can find information about the effectiveness of a hood in the performance table, within the product data sheet.The hood is effective if the table contains a suction capacity value equal to or greater than the calculated effectiveness, in one of the speed columns.

Choose the installation/filtering mode: Aspirating

An extractor hood connected to the chimney which expels fumes and steam outside the home via specific pipes and is made up of:

  • External shell
  • Suction unit (takes in the air)
  • Air ducting system (the air is expelled outside the house)
  • Grease filter (prevents grease from damaging the engine)

*All our hoods can operate in both extraction and filtering modes unless otherwise specified

Choose the installation/filtering mode: Filtering

A filtering hood not connected to the flue, which purifies the air from fumes and steam through specific active carbon filters, and then reintroduces it clean into the environment, consists of:

- external body;

- suction unit (drains the air);

- carbon filter (filters the air from odors and must be replaced periodically. Consult the guide for choosing carbon filters);

- anti-grease filter (prevents grease from damaging the motor).

*All Faber hoods can operate in both suction and filtering mode, unless otherwise specified.

Choose the type and design

Wall-mounted, built-in or island, modern, classic or contemporary, the hood must be able to satisfy the needs of space, design and practicality.

  • Wall hoods

    T-shape, chimney or vertical, these hoods come in different shapes, sizes and finishes and are mounted on the wall.

  • Ceiling and downdraft hoods

Focus on technology and energy saving

When choosing a hood, it is a good idea to pay attention to the energy class.Opting for a hood in class equal to or higher than A+ means investing in a quality product capable of reducing energy consumption.

There are technologies specifically designed to meet specific needs:

- Steam Off System is able to eliminate condensation and is particularly suitable for induction hobs;

- Sill & Still Technology is ideal for those looking for an extremely silent hood even at maximum power.
