Faber Design Heritage: a journey through Italian excellence past, present and future

In the world of interior design and kitchen appliances, few companies can claim a legacy of innovation and style quite like Faber. For more than seventy years, the Italian brand has been a symbol of excellence in the design of kitchen hoods, seamlessly blending artisanal tradition, technological innovation and a refined sense of aesthetics.

In this article, we retrace the key milestones of Faber’s design story, from its first international achievements to its most recent innovations, focusing on the contemporary Beat, Beat XL and Modular hoods, which now perfectly embody the brand’s philosophy. Over time, Faber has succeeded in transforming a simple household appliance into a true design object, becoming a genuine point of reference for those who seek a kitchen that is both elegant and high-performing.

The Origins of an Italian LegacyItalian legacy

Founded in 1955 by Abramo Galassi, the company began as Faber Plast, originally specialising in the processing of plastic materials and the production of household items. But in 1958, Faber took a decisive step forward: by creating the very first kitchen hood made of plexiglass, it gave birth to an entirely new way of experiencing the kitchen, establishing what would become known as the Fabriano Cooker Hood District.

This pioneering spirit marked the beginning of a journey that, driven by the brilliance and determination of an entrepreneur who thrived on challenges, would soon make Faber one of the key global players in the extractor hood industry.

Continuous Innovation: A Path of Achievements

Faber’s evolution in kitchen hood design is punctuated by a long series of firsts and ythe development of avant-garde innovations that have set new standards in technology and style. Every decade has brought fresh challenges and forward-thinking solutions designed to meet the ever-changing needs of modern living.

The first models of the 1950s, though simple in form, introduced the concept of domestic comfort, freeing the kitchen space from smoke and vapour, and paving the way for the major expansion of the 1960s. With stainless steel and more efficient motors, models such as Eolo (1962) and Euro (1963) arrived in households as robust and modern guardians of air purity.

This transition towards advanced functionality led to the remarkable integration of the 1970s, represented by the first retractable FL12 and FL15 hoods (1976). Built with cutting-edge materials and quiet technologies, these models could disappear into modular units, minimising visual impact and elevating the kitchen to a welcoming social hub, a prelude to the aesthetic explosion of the 1980s.

It was during this decade that Faber’s design identity fully blossomed. The Formula (1984) was the first Italian decorative cooker hood, breaking new ground with its sinuous forms, vivid colours and decorative details. It transformed the hood into a central visual statement, setting the mood and atmosphere of the entire kitchen.

The minimalism of the 1990s refined this trajectory even further: in 1995 came Axia, the first T-shaped hood, followed by integrated solutions such as Master (1999), designed according to the principle “form follows function”, introducing a clean, high-tech aesthetic.

In the 2000s, Faber set itself apart once again with the F-Light generation – the first chandelier hoods, and with Talìka, a completely vertical hood. In the new century, progress extended beyond technology to style, with dynamic products like Corinthia, Céline and Pareo, all reinterpreting traditional standards to suit contemporary taste.

Design as an Expression of Functionality and Style

Throughout its history, Faber has not merely extracted odours , it has redefined the very soul of the home. Each product stems from meticulous research aimed at creating unique solutions that are both technologically advanced and visually striking, all while maintaining the artisanal care evident in their clean lines, refined finishes and attention to detail.

The range is broad and versatile: from built-in to island hoods, from minimalist designs to boldly decorative pieces in vibrant colours. Each product is united by the same high quality standards and cutting-edge technology. Faber doesn’t simply follow design trends, it often anticipates them, creating extraction systems that become genuine design objects, capable of transforming the kitchen into a warm, functional and refined environment with a strong identity.

The Excellence of Contemporary Design: Beat, Beat XL and Modular

In the panorama of kitchen design, Faber elevates the extractor hood to a true work of art through Beat, Beat XL and Modular, symphonies of refined harmony, versatility and advanced technology, redefining the heart of the home.

Beat enchants with its graceful, asymmetrical silhouette, a monolith suspended in mid-air. Perfect for minimalist kitchens, whether wall-mounted or island installations. The Beat XL amplifies this vision with its generous 80 cm proportions. Retaining the same essential elegance, it provides additional space that makes it ideal for convivial islands and features dimmable LED lighting that sculpts the atmosphere. Beat adapts to any setting, combining a sleek design with silent touch controls, as well as featuring a remote control that’s convenient to use wherever you are in the kitchen.

A perfect synthesis of elegance, functionality and cutting-edge technology, the Modular hood revolutionises the very concept of extraction design with a multifunctional system that turns the kitchen into a dynamic, personalised space.

Its core consists of a 60 cm central module, equipped with a powerful extraction unit (up to 720 m³/h in intensive mode), which can be installed alone or combined with one or two additional shelves in smoked black matt glass. These elements not only enrich the industrial-chic aesthetic but also create useful storage for everyday objects, cookbooks or decorative items, transforming the appliance into a functional, integrated furniture piece.

A modular masterpiece of style, adaptability and innovation, it features a dimmable LED lighting bar that precisely illuminates the cooking area or creates an intimate mood. This hood also features active charcoal filters allowing for both ducted and recirculating modes, in addition to  Sound Pro technology to ensure quieter operation, while its A energy class delivers sustainable comfort.

In 2025, Faber celebrated its 70th anniversary, proud of an enduring heritage that has continuously renewed itself without ever losing sight of its roots. To mark this occasion, a new colour option was unveiled for the exclusive Beat range: a sophisticated Dark Forest shade that echoes the brand’s iconic logo.

The story of the Fabriano-based brand is one of Italian excellence - built on passion, research and creativity - values that continue to guide the company toward new horizons. The Beat and Modular hoods, along with the brand-new Galileo range of hob extractors, stand today as the latest expressions of this spirit of innovation: designs that reinterpret the kitchen hood concept to meet the needs of contemporary living, enhancing functionality, beauty and sustainability.

Once again, Faber demonstrates that true design heritage is not mere memory, but the ongoing ability to evolve, anticipate and improve our quality of life, proudly taking centre stage in every kitchen where a Faber hood transforms daily life into an experience of comfort, elegance and inspiration.
